IDream Independent Pictures Ltd (IDIP) is a sales agency set up to sell independent Indian films worldwide. IDIP strongly believes in independent cinema and is interested in backing top quality Indian films which have the potential of reaching beyond the Indian diaspora especially in the US, UK and other fast developing markets.
Indian films are now being screened in nearly all major countries; they regularly participate in festivals and film markets while a few like ‘Monsoon Wedding’ have attracted mainstream audiences. There is a distinct buzz for Indian cinema and it is a matter of time before an Indian film crosses over like ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’. It is this opportunity that led to the setting up of IDIP.
IDIP has been promoted by a leading independent film producer, IDream Production (www.idreamproduction.com). IDream Production was set up to create a platform to promote inspiring and interesting cinema. The company is promoted by Mr. Shripal Morakhia, (a pioneer in the Indian institutional stock broking (SSKI Securities) and retail stock broking(Sharekhan)). IDream is headed by Ashish Bhatnagar (former investment banker & media analyst at SSKI) while Rohit Sharma (former head of national distribution at Modi Disney) drives sales & marketing.
The vision of IDream is to play out interesting themes and in this process create a unique global brand. IDream initially pioneered new age cinema with the successful distribution of ‘Monsoon Wedding’, ‘Bollywood/ Hollywood’ and ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ in India. In production, IDream experimented in new genres – a ground breaking VFX heavy children film ‘Jajantaram Mamantaram’, a political thriller ‘16 December’ and a mythological ‘Agnivarsha’, each breaking new grounds in story telling and unique marketing. IDream then crossed new frontiers by investing in international productions - a mockumentary ‘King of Bollywood’, ‘Naina’ a supernatural/horror thriller which has been sold to more than a dozen countries and ‘The Sick House’ a British horror film which was recently released by New Line Cinema in North America.
IDream is now launching a number of new films aimed at a fast growing discerning audiences. The focus has always been on the story telling and the new slate will reflect this vision.
IDIP is headed by Rohit Sharma who brings his vast experience of selling films in India and international film markets. He has successfully sold films both in Indian language and in English to traditional and non-traditional territories across the world. Rohit was earlier working with Buena Vista International and managing their film distribution in India. Based in India and London, Rohit is interested in representing Hindi films which have an international appeal for the non-Indian markets and also sell India–centric English films for the Indian markets and also international markets.
