IDream Independent Pictures Ltd (IDIP) is a sales agency set up to sell independent Indian films worldwide. IDIP strongly believes in independent cinema and is interested in backing top quality Indian films which have the potential of reaching beyond the Indian diaspora especially in the US, UK and other fast developing markets.
Indian films are now being screened in nearly all major countries; they regularly participate in festivals and film markets while a few like ‘Monsoon Wedding’ have attracted mainstream audiences. There is a distinct buzz for Indian cinema and it is a matter of time before an Indian film crosses over like ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’. It is this opportunity that led to the setting up of IDIP.
IDIP has been promoted by a leading independent film producer, IDream Production (www.idreamproduction.com). IDream Production was set up to create a platform to promote inspiring and interesting cinema. The company was promoted by Mr. Shripal Morakhia, (a pioneer in the Indian institutional stock broking (SSKI Securities) and retail stock broking (Sharekhan)). IDream is now headed by Ashish Bhatnagar (former investment banker & media analyst at SSKI).
The vision of IDream is to play out interesting themes and in this process create a unique global brand. IDream initially pioneered new age cinema with the successful distribution of ‘Monsoon Wedding’, ‘Bollywood/ Hollywood’ and ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ in India. In production, IDream experimented in new genres – a ground breaking VFX heavy children film ‘Jajantaram Mamantaram’, a political thriller ‘16 December’ and a mythological ‘Agnivarsha’, each breaking new grounds in story telling and unique marketing. IDream then crossed new frontiers by investing in international productions - a mockumentary ‘King of Bollywood’, ‘Naina’ a supernatural/horror thriller which has been sold to more than a dozen countries and ‘The Sick House’ a British horror film which was recently released by New Line Cinema in North America.
